Rotary El Salvador Prosthetic Project
Lead by District 5320 Past District Governor Mike Abdala, M.D., 31 members of the Orange Rotary Club contributed money to a matching grant that provided prosthetic artificial limbs to amputees in Santa Ana, El Salvador.
Nine other Rotary Clubs in District 5320 and the Sacramento, CA, Rotary Club also participated in this project. Dr. Abdala and Dr. Gilbert Wright of the Sacramento Club, accompanied by two prosthetists, along with four members of the Orange Club have gone to El Salvador and fitted 88 amputees with new limbs.
This project demonstrates how Rotary is helping a war ravaged country return its people to a productive life. The orthopedic team also has held a pediatric clinic to identify eight children who will be coming to the Shrine Hospital in Sacramento for orthopedic and plastic surgery this year.
