Police Awards of Merit

Officer Mark Camarillo

Officer Mark Camarillo has been with the OPD for 13 years, working many specialty assignments. Some included Motor Officer, Undercover & Norcotics Unit, Detective Division and the Gang Unit. Last year Mark transferred to the Patrol Division. With his strong investigative experience, Officer Camarillo is a member of the Crime Scene Investigation Team and a Field Training Officer. Mark demonstrates initiative, teamwork, and has excellent interpersonal skills with department personnel and the public.

Officer Tammy South

Officer Tammy South has been with OPD for 12 years. During this time, she has work as a Records Clerk, Reserve Officer, and became a full time Officerin April 1990. Tammy is trilingual, speaking Spanish and Sign Language. During light duty status, tammy works as a Background Investigator, relief Watch commander, and assist in communications. Her crime scene investigations are recognized as being complete and meticulous. In addition, Tammy trains reserve and full-time officers and brings humor to the job with a positive effect on morale. She is married and has two children.

Detective Charles Brown

Detective Charles Brown has demonstrated exceptional ability as a Fraud and Check Detective. These types of investigations require tedious hours of locating and interviewing numerous of witnesses, reviewing and sorting through large volumes of evidence, obtaining search warrants, dealing with attorneys, financial institutions and various law enforcement agencies, many which are located out of state. Detective Brown is very methodical in his approach to bring cases to their logical conclusion. Charles has only been a Detective since June 1 997.

Officer Randy Donna

Officer Randy Donna has been with the OP for 13 years with the last 8 years, as a Motor Officer. Randy is a ''top" producer in the number of citations issued, most of which are for "moving violations" that cause accidents. He works hard to make the streets of Orange a safe place to drive and takes pride in identifying and resolving traffic problems. He is also involved with the Traffic Bureau's D.B.A. checkpoints and participates in bicycle rodeos, teaching bicycle safety to elementary school children. One of Randy's primary enforcement concerns is that of child safety restraints and carseats.

 

Police Officer of the Year

Police Officer of the Year CorporalDerek Cook

Corporal Derek Cook began his career in public service in 1980 as a Firefighterwith the US ForestService. Aftertwo years Derek joined the Marine Corps as a MP and attained the rank of Corporal. In September 1987, Derek joined OPD. During his 1 1 years, he has held various positions within the Patrol and Administration Divisions including Patrol Officer, Canine Handler and Background Investigator. Derek also is a member of the OPD SWAT team and is an instructor forthe OPD's Citizents Academy and OUSD's ROP Program. During Derek's 1 1 yearcareerwith OPD, he has never used a day of sick leave. This is a true testament to his dedication and commitment to the City and the citizens of Orange.

 

Reserve Officer of the Year

Oscar Montano Reserve Officer

Oscar Montano started his career with OPD in July 1982. during his 1 7 years, Oscar has been assigned to the Patrol Division, where he performs law enforcement and crime prevention duties. Oscar is often called upon to work with codeenforment, I.N.S, a dn warrant service detail. His bi-lingual abilities enable him to be an effective liaison between OPD and our community. You may see Oscar at the "Block'' as a full time Police Services Officer!

 

Police Explorer of the Year

Explorer Steven Bell

Steven Bell is just 15 years old. As a freshman at Orange High, Steven maintains a 3.2 GPA. Steven became a member of the Orange Police Explorer Post #266 in April 1998. He completed the Basic Explorer Academy and was voted ''Explorer of the Year" by the PostAdvisorystafifor 1998-99. Steve's long term goal is to learn all he can and to pursue a careeras an Orange Police Officer.

 

Police Volunteer of the Year

Mary Caroll

Mary Carroll is an exemplary model of the collaborative efforts between Law Enforcement and the Community they protect and serve. Since Mary's acceptance into the OPD Volunteer program on October 18, 1995, Mary has contributed to over 900 hours in the preparation of the Volunteer Policy & Procedure Manual. Mary has spent many hours participating at training seminars on ''Avoiding Telephone and Mail Fraud'' sponsored by the Orange Council on Aging.
