On June 16th 1998, Orange Engine Seven and Orange Rescue Three responded a report of a child with a cardiac history having chest pain and difficulty breathing.

On arrival Engine Seven found an eleven year old boy with a very accelerated pulse. After a dose of medication, the child's pulse rate did not slow down. Paramedics were ordered by the base hospital to cardiovert the patient. While this procedure was being attempted, the child went into full cardiac arrest. After tense period of CPR and cardio defibrillations the boys pulse returned to normal.

The child has since been implanted with an internal defibrilator at USC Medical Center. Both crews have been recommended by both the Chapman Hospital staff and also from Children's Hospital of Los Angeles for the emergency care given in the field. If it had not been for very professional actions by the crews of Engine Seven and Rescue Three, this child may have died atthe scene.

It is with great honor to present this years Medal of Valor recipients;

Capt John Jordan
Engineer Robert Dotson
Firefighter Paramedic's John Ireland, Mike Swanson, and Robert Stefano
