Children's Hospital of Orange County Reading Club
The staff of "Childrens Hospital of Orange County" recognized the opportunity they had to expand the doctor-patient relationship to include promoting reading and literacy.
This model program includes a room designed to house books and provide an area for patients to read.
The clinic will also have volunteers who read to the children. The final part of the program is provide a new book for each patient to take home to enjoy with their family. Our role in this project has been to raise money to help fund the startup of the Choc Reading Room. We raised $1,000 and are happy to report that the Reading Room facility was completed and open for use in February 1999.
